- Channel for mandibular branch of trigeminal nerve and vessels.
- Neurovascular tissue enters mandible at the mandibular foramen.
- Runs through ramus and body of mandible from molar to incisor area.
- Appears as a thick, linear radiolucency inferior to roots of teeth.
- May have slightly corticated borders.
- Often visualized in molar and premolar area; harder to see anterior of mental foramen.
- Not visible in many cases – sometimes not a well-defined canal.
