Alveolar crest

Alveolar crest is pointed between anterior teeth.

  • Gingival margin of alveolar process extending between teeth.
  • Appears as a radiopacity at superior aspect of alveolar process.
  • In health, it is no more than 2.0 mm apical to CEJ.
  • Pointed structure in anterior teeth, flat in posterior areas.
  • Continuation of lamina dura.

Alveolar crest is flat and thick between posterior teeth; note alteration in structure between 2nd premolar and 1st molar.
