TMJ sounds

  • Click: When the articular disc is displaced anterior to the condyle, a click sound is usually demonstrated when the mouth is opened and the condyle moves past the thick posterior band of the articular disc.
  • Crepitation sound: (Also know as crepitus) is usually associated with a degenerative process (osteoarthritis) of the condyle, the dull thud is usually associated with a self-reducing subluxation of the condyle.
