Incisive foramen (Nasopalating foramen)



  • Oral opening of nasopalatine canals.
  • Carries nasopalatine vessels and nerves.
  • Midline of anterior maxilla behind central incisors at junction of median palatal and incisive sutures.




  • Solitary radiolucency between centrals.
  • Usually indistinct border, but may be well-defined.
  • Oval or round.
  • May appear heart-shaped if anterior nasal spine is superimposed.
  • Must distinguish from inflammatory disease around incisor roots.
