Mild pain - OTC

ACETAMINOPHEN
  • analgesic, non-narcotic, antipyretic
  • most common: Tylenol, generic
  • 325 mg. tabs take 2-3 tabs q 4h
  • okay with stomach irritability or bleeding problems
  • IS NOT ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

ASPIRIN
  • analgesic, non-narcotic, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, platelet aggregation inhibitor
  • most common: generic
  • 324 mg. tabs take 2-3 tabs q 4h
  • do not exceed 4 g per day
  • CONTRAINDICATED with bleeding disorders
  • precaution with renal dysfunction, dehydration, erosive gastritis,
  • peptic ulcer disease, children < 16 y.o.

IBUPROFEN
  • analgesic, non-narcotic, anti-inflammatory (NSAID)
  • most common: Motrin, Advil, Midol, Nuprin, Medipren, generic
  • 200 mg tabs take 2-3 tabs q 4-6 h
  • do not exceed 3200 mg q d
  • Precaution with CHF, ^ BP, history of GI disease, renal or hepatic dysfunction, anticoagulant use, elderly population
  • IS NOT ANTI-PYRETIC

NAPROZEN
  • analgesic, non-narcotic, anti-pyretic, anti-infl ammatory (NSAID)
  • most common - Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn, Naprelan
  • 220 mg tabs take 1-2 tabs q 8h
  • do not exceed 1250 mg per day
  • CONTRAINDICATED with aspirin or other NSAID sensitivity
  • precautions same as aspirin and ibuprofen
